KeyWest is the southernmost tip of North America and only 90 miles from Cuba.

It is the end of a chain of islands that extend south from Monroe County, Florida. The land mass of the 4 by 2 mile island was nearly doubled in the 1950s by filling most of the salt ponds. Calusa people where the Pre Columbian natives and in 1521 Juan Ponce de León became the first European to visit. Ernest Hemingway is one of the many celebrities who once lived on the island. The Hemingway House located at 907 Whitehead St. is open to the public and more than 50 descendents of Hemingway’s cat Snowball still reside there.
